Philately: Art That Travelled reimagines India’s early definitive postage stamps as finely crafted objects for the desk, the library and the collector.
Featuring the Ajanta Panel, Trimurti and Nataraja, the collection includes journals hand-printed by silkscreen, brass bookmarks, 24K gold-plated brass paperweights, and cufflinks that honour Indian art, history and craftsmanship.
Definitive stamps were first issued on 15th August, 1949, for everyday postal use, unlike commemorative stamps that marked special occasions. They travelled widely on letters, postcards and parcels, becoming a quiet part of daily life and communication. Through their small designs, they carried a nation’s art, history and identity from one hand to another.
