We commissioned this artwork to commemorate the opening of our flagship store at Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai. This place has a special meaning for our brand as it began its journey here over a decade ago.
The name Kala Ghoda means Black Horse, a reference to the presence of a black stone statue of King Edward VII (as the then Prince of Wales) mounted on a horse that was built by Jewish businessman and philanthropist Albert Abdullah David Sassoon. This statue was removed from the precinct in 1965 and subsequently placed inside the Byculla Zoo (Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan). The memory of this iconic statue still lingers on even to this day and this area is called Kala Ghoda Artist: Archana Pereira
