Sidi Sayyed ni Jali
The Sidi Sayyed Jali, located in Ahmedabad, India, is a renowned architectural marvel, noted for its intricate latticework windows or "jalis". Built in 1573, it's a part of the Siddi Sayyed Mosque, commissioned by Siddi Sayyed, a general in the army of the last Sultan of the Gujarat Sultanate. The jalis, carved out of yellow sandstone, exhibit an Indo-Islamic fusion of architectural styles. Most famed is the semi-circular jali depicting a tree with intertwined branches, a masterful display of craftsmanship, and an enduring symbol of Ahmedabad's rich heritage.
The Sidi Sayyed Jali is the unofficial symbol of the city of Ahmedabad and the inspiration for the design of the logo of IIM-Ahmedabad.
