Traditional Ajrakh is recognised by its rich indigo, madder red, black and white palette, and its symmetrical arrangements of stars, flowers and geometric forms.

Historically worn as turbans, shawls and garments by pastoral and agricultural communities, Ajrakh is more than a decorative textile. It carries the memory of its landscape, its makers and a remarkable living tradition of craftsmanship.

Founder’s Note: Ajrakh Journal

Working with Indian textiles has been one of the enduring joys of my life as a designer. We have worked with kantha, shibori, silk, indigo-dyed fabrics and chikankari, each opening up fresh possibilities. There is a particular pleasure in choosing a fabric, holding it in the hand and imagining how it might become part of an object someone will use and cherish.

This Ajrakh Journal continues that exploration.
